Ports London a Project in Motion
Thursday, July 15th, 2010
When entering the new store in Harvey Nichols one encounters a contiguous walnut surface, which wraps from floor to wall to ceiling and creates the feeling of a catwalk with as a backdrop the projection of the latest fashion show. The two flanking silvery spaces reveal the collection suspended in space from twisted silver-nickel bars, and lit from below by recessed lighting. Archi-tectonics developed suspended mannequins, as ‘sculpted’ bodies exhibiting the fluid lines of the clothes, to complement the hanging vitrines as designed by Gabellini Sheppard Associates . Movement created by the passers-by, cause the mannequins to slowly turn, and reveal the pieces from all sides. This almost hypnotic movement, is reinforced by the light of a very large gorgeous chandelier designed by Barlas Baylar of Hudson Design.
